WHAT SCIENCE SAYS
A study by EFSA28 identified several serious problems, such as the use of machines with slowly rotating blades or machine overload. In other words, chicks can be injured but remain conscious and in pain.

Some European countries, such as France and Germany, have already banned the slaughter by maceration or asphyxiation of male chicks, even without any indication from the European Union to this effect.
